This pattern is for a quick and fun crocheted hat, suitable for all skill levels.
It utilizes standard US crochet terminology
Finished Size: Approximately 2.75″ square – fits standard marshmallow mugs.
- Materials
- -Green Yarn (Medium, 4)
- -Bright Yellow Yarn (Medium, 4)
- -Size 8.0mm hook (L)
- -Stitch Marker
- -Yarn needle, Scissors
- Abbreviations (US Terms)
- MC – Magic Circle
- Ch – Chain
- Sl st – Slip stitch
- HDC – Half double crochet
- DC – Double crochet
- St – Stitch
How to make a Puff Stitch
• Yarn Over (YO) & insert your hook into the stitch
• YO & pull back through the stitch, you now have 3 loops on your hook (keep it loose)
• Repeat 3 more times until you have 9 loops on your hook
• YO and pull through all 9 loops, (facing your hook downward will make this easier)
• Ch1 to close and secure the puff
Pineapple Hat Base (Yellow)
Using the yellow yarn and your 8.0mm hook, make a magic circle.
R1 Work 8 HDC into MC, sl st into 1st st. (8)
R2 2 HDC into each stitch, sl st into 1st st. (16)
R3 1 HDC, INC in next st (repeat until end of round), sl st into 1st st. (24)
R4 Ch2, work 1 puff st into same st as the join. Ch1, sk next st, work 1 puff stitch in next st (repeat for the rest of the round).
Sl st into first Chain space at the top of your first Puff st of the last round. (12 puff sts + 12 ch sps)
R5+R6 Repeat R4. You should have 3 rows of puff stitches (12 in each row), sl st into top of first Puff stitch of the last round.(12)
R7-8 Ch1, work 1SC into each st of the round, sl st into first st. (24)
Fasten off & weave in ends.
Pineapple Crown (Green)
Instructions for creating the green crown element (using an 8.0mm hook).
- Form a MC (Magic Circle) & secure with a ch 1.
- Ch 7 then working back into the chain you just made sk 1 ch, sl st into next, HDC, DC, HDC, SC, then sl st back into the MC.
- Repeat Step 2 three more times until you have 4 leaves (feel free to add more!).
- Pull the starting tail end to close the MC.
- Fasten off leaving a tail.
Assembly
• Thread both the starting tail & the finishing tail through the top of the pineapple & secure with a double knot.
• Weave in ends.
